The Book

Cork Millner banishes many of the myths about wine, such as:

  • French wines are better than California wines.
  • Wine should be allowed to “breathe.”
  • White wine goes with fish, red wine with meats.
  • You must always sniff the wine cork.
  • Wine critics determine what wines you should buy.

The book also approaches wine appreciation humorously with such items as a “Wine Snobbery 101 Quiz,” which tests your knowledge with such insightful questions as:

The phrase, “Unpretentious with a hint of boldness,” refers to:

  1. Your uncle’s plaid jacket.
  2. Manischewitz and Coca-Cola.
  3. A domestic Chablis.
  4. Nasti Spumanti.

Vintage Cork also offers: “Ten Wine Snobbery No No’s” such as:

  • Never buy a wine with a “sell by” date.
  • Never pay more than $100 for a bottle of wine, unless the grapes are stomped by Sophia Loren.

Further, Cork Millner includes a section highlighting Recipes by the Winemakers, which includes 26 recipes created by winemakers to show how to add a “pinch of zest” to any recipe by adding the most fascinating ingredient in cooking—wine.
